Gadgets = Search Engine Ranking?
In recent months social networking sites have been working on allowing people with minimal programming experience to code add-ons to their services. One of the first offerings I can remember is when Google started offering programmers to create "Gadget", they allow users to add customized objects to their IGoogle service. These "Gadget" could be as simple as a single picture to full range of applications, games, stock portfolio listings or a customized clock.
On each of these add-ons, widgets or applications, you can simply program in a link back to your website. This will count as a link to your site from some very high page ranked sites to help with your search engine ranking. What may seem to be a second important feature would be the increased traffic to your website. The more people learn about your site and the information, products or services that you offer the greater your reputation can grow.
I understand that not everyone can build an add-on for these social networking sites, but with the collaboration going on between Myspace, Google, Engaged, Friendster, LinkedIn and many more, you may be able to create a single Gadget and allow users to use it over and over on multiple sites. This is a creative way to advertise your company and still give your users something they can find useful.
