 Search Engine Optimization - Anchor Text
Anchor text is the term used to refer to the visible words on a webpage that are linked to a webpage. Anchor text has become more and more relevant in search engine optimization programming because of the importance that search engines have been placing on this type of text in their algorithms.
Example one (poor):
Click here for custom cabinets and millwork.
In this example the anchor text is "here". This does little to help out the website http://www.kustomkutters.com with ranking help for the products and services that they sell. This is the way that a number of websites have been programmed in the past. This works in situations but does not maximize the link in your search engine rankings.
Example two (good):
A wonderful website for custom cabinets and millwork:
Example two uses the anchor text "custom cabinets and millwork". This does help in search engine ranking for keywords that are relevant to Kustom Kutters and the products that they sell. This is easy to do on the sites that you are the programmer for, but for other sites that link to yours you will need to work with the webmasters for those sites to help out.
