GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR SETTING UP NEW SITE

1. The Name for Your New Website

First step is to find a domain name for your new site. When you are looking for a name for your website, try to make the domain name fit your company name or the purpose of your website. Your can use the form below to check if the domain name you would like is available. It is a good idea to either find or start looking for your webhosting solution. The two main choices are to either host the website on your own server or find a hosting service.

2. Type of Website You Will Need

At this point it can be assumed that you have been running many different ideas through your head or on paper about what you would like for your site to do for you. Yes, your site should work for you, not you working for your site. These ideas of yours would be best put on paper so that you can share them with anyone that may be helping you complete the deisgn. These design ideas and your website concept should be enough to evaluate the type of site you are going to want and need to best fit your needs.

3. Layout and Design Concept

This can either be the hardest or the most interesting part of building your website. Those people that have a good eye for designing or have artistic talents usually enjoy this part of the design. Many people setup a website design in Photoshop or another photo design software package. This allows a person to setup the layout and design the way that they want it and not get frustrated with putting the site together and coding it at the same time.

4. Coding and Entering Website Information

Now we begin the process of moving onto the technical side of web designing. At this point you will want to choose the software that you will need to do the webpage programming. There are many programs available like Dreamweaver and Frontpage. These programs allow both WYSIWYG and direct coding with ease. If you have enough talent you can use a program like notepad to write all of the code that way.

5. Posting to your Webhost

After all of the programming is done for your site and you are comfortable with the end product you are now ready to upload your files to your hosting server. This process will vary based on the host that you have chosen. Now you should be able to access your website from any computer with Internet access and a web browser.

***Again I would like to remind you that these are very simple guidelines and building your website involves alot of time and effort. Planning and designing should end up being the longest processes if you want to be sure to have a very satisfying website.
